The Decibelles are:

Janet, Deirdre and Wendy.

When we're not singing fabulous a capella music we're doing other great music stuff like running our own choirs and teaching singing. Wendy can also be found singing with the SoulTrippers and various jazz trios; Janet is into classical and weird contemporary music, and Deirdre runs too many community choirs to count!

We arrange our songs ourselves - from jazz standards like Night and Day to rock songs like Sweet Child Of Mine, from 60s hits like Will you Love Me Tomorrow to pop classics like Fix You and Faith. Any song can be given the Decibelles close harmony treatment! Expect a few surprises along the way as we mix things up a little....

A sprinkling of choreography, a sizzle of ukes, a huge dash of humour and the Decibelles are here!

Deirdre

Deirdre O'Kelly has been singing since she was a child - she remembers singing Amazing Grace at school when she was 8 and got the bug then! She trained at RADA as an actress and worked as a voiceover artist for many years. She has been teaching singing, drama and Musical Theatre for 14 years and enjoys directing and performing in musicals and even the odd panto! (Oh no she doesn't...) She sings at weddings and performs live whenever she can. She runs her own Rock, Pop and Gospel group, a local children's choir and leads more community choirs than she can count! She loves performing with the Decibelles and even likes a little bit of a dance - she certainly finds it hard to keep still... and arranging songs has been great fun too!

Wendy

Wendy Linsey is an experienced singer and tutor. Originally a trained Classical singer who enjoyed singing pop songs, she came to jazz in her early 30s and has been hooked ever since singing in various jazz combos around South West London. Alongside this her enjoyment for Motown and soul is also evident as she currently sings with the popular Motown band the SoulTrippers: a 10 piece band with four singers! This is all very different from singing with The Decibelles where every song is crafted to suit the 3 voices and occasional ukelele/keytar/percussion. The enjoyment of choosing, arranging and devising the songs and shows has been a revelation and the combination of the three voices and personalities works perfectly!

Janet

Janet Oates comes from a classical background, and began singing seriously at university, where Gilbert and Sullivan operettas gave her the opportunity to strut around on stage in fabulous costumes. She still performs in classical groups, ensembles and operas, specialising in Early and 21st century music. She also composes (including 2 operas! Does this explain why her Deci arrangements are the HARD ones?) and leads several choirs and vocal groups. The Decibelles has given her a new lease of life - or is it just another opportunity to strut around on stage in costume?!
